Our Life Vice President Alison Knapp met Queen Elizabeth in 1996 when the Queen Elizabeth Childrens Hospital in Hackney closed, and wards moved to the Royal London Hospital.
” I was in a party of hospital staff and found myself escorting her majesty across Stepney Way, as some others dropped behind us. As the two of us got ready to cross the road, I looked right left and right again and told Her Majesty it was safe to cross! She laughed and said, ” it’s very safe, have you noticed the policemen shoulder to shoulder at either end of the street?” ….. Lots of laughter from us both! ” Alison Knapp
