Hold Your Breath! Removing the Charter Window from the Great Hall

All News, Events, League

The Barts League of Nurses helped to fund the restoration of the famous Charter Window in the Great Hall. At the end of March, a specialist team removed the stained glass from the historic building, and it is now on its way to a specialist restoration team, Holy Well Glass, in Wells, Somerset. As you can see in this video, the entire operation required nerves of steel.

During removal, historic graffiti was visible, offering a glimpse into the past when the Charter Window was installed. Post restoration, this should be clearer.

Each section was removed with care by a specialist conservation team.

We will be following the restoration of this iconic window as it undergoes conservation treatment. To all those League members who donated- thank you, the work has commenced!
