Help Needed to Reunite a 100 Year Old Barts Badge

People, All News

A Barts badge has been found by a metal detectorist, and we’d like your help to reunite it with the descendants of the original owner.

Anyone who trained at Barts Hospital as a nurse will know the immense pride in being awarded the traditional badge with the Wakering Shield. The Barts League of Nurses has been contacted by a metal detectorist who found a Barts badge underneath Worthing Pier. When he cleaned it up and looked at the back he found a clue to the owner. There’s a name and date inscribed on the back- Lilian Green April 1923.

Update- 8th January 2024. We now know that Lilian’s married name was D’Alton and that she lived in Five Ashes, Sussex, in the 1960s. We are starting to build a story about her but would appreciate any details that will help us reunite the badge.

Just over 100 years since the nurse qualified, we’d love to be able to reunite this badge with descendants of Lilian. How did the badge come to be under Worthing Pier? If you have any details at all which might help us tell Lilian’s story and reunite the Barts badge, please contact info@bartsleagueofnurses.org
