Confirmation has been received that a World Record for the largest number of people involved in participating in a CPR relay has been broken- and Barts nurses were at the heart of the action.
On Tuesday 22nd September 2026 Elizabeth Wood-Dow (League President & Livery member) and Joanne Carroll (Benevolent committee/Freeman), represented The Worshipful Company of Nurses by supporting the Central London Alliance CPR World Record breaking attempt, the most people ever to participate in a CPR relay. They were assessed and verified by St. Johns Ambulance members while undertaking 60 chest compressions. Both were said to have good technique and rhythm – Well, they are BARTS nurses from Set 17 (1980—1983) what else would you expect!
Over 4000 people took part and many were trained in CPR at the event. Most importantly, there are now many more people on the streets of London, who are confident to attempt CPR in an emergency. Cardiac arrest can happen to anyone: a teammate, a colleague, a friend, a family member or a complete stranger. The skills learned could one day make the difference between life and death.
